While most guitarists strum, pick or shred they seldom play the actual tune, for them the role of the guitar has been reduced to merely accompanying the human voice. Johnguitars longs to see the day when once again the guitar can take its place alongside the piano, the organ and the harp as an instrument which, in the hands of a skilled musician, can produce both melody and accompaniment at one and the same time.
The melodic guitar style used by Johnguitars can be described as first, playing the tune or melody. Second, adding a chord here and there and thirdly, working the notes of that chord to fill any obvious gaps in the sound.
